Introduction :

This e-zine is proof positive that you should backup your things. For when I went to edit the post on my WordPress low and behold the e-zine was not there. Of course I had a backup but it was disturbing to me all the same because I’m wondering if I had posted it at all. It’s disturbing when you think your mind is slipping but thankfully I have a partner that keeps me on track. There are many ways to save and store your information now that there really is no excuse not to back up vital files or personal files on your computer. If you are new to the computer world you may not know but if you have been around a computer you should know by now that data on a computer is all just ones and zeros and if a one becomes a zero you are in big trouble.

Corrupted files and viruses will over time kill your operating system rendering your computer useless and your files gone. That is why it is so important to backup your computer. Most computer operating systems come with a automatic backup for the registry in case something happens. But not always does the backup fix what broke in the first place.

There are many components for the computer, programs and services that will backup your data for you in case the worst happens. Components like backup hard drives, flash drives, CD’s, DVD’s can all hold data that you want to save in case something happens to your computer. Programs like Genie Backup Manager, NTI BackupNow!, NovaStor NovaBackup, Handy Backup and Double Image. And services like Carbonite, Acpana Data Deposit Box, Connected Data Protector, FirstBackup, Pro-Softnet’s IBackup, and Xdrive.

Keeping only one backup isn’t good enough now a days. You should have a backup of at least vital files on DVD, backup drive, off-site and on the internet somewhere. This is an assurity that your files will be there if anything at all should happen.

In some cases you have sensitive files that if they should fall into the wrong hands would devistate you. That is what encryption is for so that you can protect your backup. In most cases should your backup fall into someone elses hands the encryption renders it useless to them since most people can not crack encryption.

Windows Vista offers an easy way to backup and restore your computer should anything happen like corrupted registry, hardware failure or user error. Depending on which Windows Vista you have (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) there are solutions you can take to backup your data safely on your own computer.

Windows Backup and Restore Center includes a backup and restore application that gives users the ability to schedule periodic backups of files on their computer, as well as recovery from previous backups. Backups are incremental, storing only the changes each time, minimizing disk usage. How to Backup your Website

In some cases people use a service to create their website and are unaware of how to backup their website. Backing up your website is a good way to keep your information and website safe should anything happen. Servers can crash and hardware does fail and if you are using a hosting service that isn’t responsible they will not have backups of your website on hand to restore for you. You will have to restore your website yourself or pay the service that created the website to begin with to restore it for you. In most cases any changes that you have made since the website was created will be lost.

It is important for you to backup your website just in case anything happens. In some cases people will hack your site and destroy your website for their own ends. In other cases your website will be held hostage by corrupt hosting companies or web designers. You need to have backups for these and more eventualities.

If you have access to your CPanel or hosting service control panel for your domain in most cases you can get the backup simply by loggin into your hosting account and clicking on the backup link. If you don’t have this information then you need to get it from your hosting service. You need to backup your website and any databases you have. This should be done everytime you make a change. In some cases once a day if you have members to your website and you database is constantly being updated because of your new members.

The important thing to understand is that you are ultimately responsible for your website and you are the one that will pay should you not backup your website. In costs hundreds of dollars to create a website and you can simply protect your investment by backing your website up to your computer.

Answer:

Yes there is. But it will take some computer knowledge to do. In some cases you can hire someone to do it for you. And you should already have a backup of files that you didn’t want to lose but in the event that something happened to your backup or you haven’t backed up your computer in a while there are programs that will bypass the Operating System and retrieve you files that you just can’t live without. Here is where a friend with a computer comes in handy because you will need to download the software and burn it to a CD. Then you will have to go into your CMOS and tell the computer to boot from CD so that you can run the software on the CD instead of the computer trying to load the software on the harddrive that is not running. You can find free programs that will act like an Operating System and retrieve your files so that you can copy them to something else. You then can reinstall your Operating System on your computer. If you don’t know what a CMOS is and how to access it and switch your boot file then you should hire someone to do this for you. DO NOT ATTEMPT unless you know what you are doing this can make things worse for you should you attempt this without knowing what you are doing.
